Abstract

Two hundred and forty subjects, American and Israeli, right and left handers, males and females, were observed as they were writing and their hand and pen positions were noted. Non-standard positions were found in both cultural groups, and in both they were more prevalent with left handers. The magnitude of this effect was greater for Americans than it was for Israelis. The results are interpreted as reflecting an interaction between biological and cultural factors.
