Abstract

The question of the purpose of the study of theology has never been definitively answered … The article considers, from an ecclesiastical point of view, the requirements associated with the holding of the pastoral office. This office, according to the leading thesis, is a leadership office entrusted with the responsibility of episcopacy. Fundamental to this is the Reformation understanding of scientific theology as a methodologically controlled self-reflection of faith in its relation to the gospel, understood as the effective word. This marks the mutual interrelatedness and dependence of theology and church. They are always connected as related dimensions in the communication of the gospel.
