Abstract
AbstractThe general European war that followed Archduke Ferdinand's assassination at Sarajevo (June 28, 1914) soon became global, spreading to other corners of the world, from Africa to Asia to the Pacific. But the war remained an essentially European conflict; and no European front proved more crucial in determining victory for either side than the Western Front in France and Flanders. On this front, the first modern US Army also made its debut.
