Abstract

The following represents a handbook that presents in a compact and usable form a basic selection of those items which may be most relevant to the discussion of facts and trends and their major themes. It is not intended as an exhaustive compilation of such materials, but has similar aims to the first version which was prepared as an internal working document for use in two related conferences: “The place of value in a world of facts”, Nobel Symposium 14, Stockholm, September 1969, “Environment and society in transition: scientific developments: social consequences: policy implications”, International Joint Conference of the American Geographical Society and the World Academy of Art and Science, New York, April–May 1970.
