Abstract

During recent years China has passed through one dramatic crisis after another. Dr. Sun Yat-sen led a successful coup against the ruling Manchu Dynasty in 1911. Between 1911 and 1949 China's troubles included inflation, invasion and occupation by foreign armies, civil war, and social chaos.
