Abstract

China, with its seven hundred million people, is making a social revolution to order. Officially, in a resolution adopted by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party on August 8, 1966, the move is described as "the great proletarian cultural revolution now unfolding." This revolution "touches people in their very souls and constitutes a new stage in the development of the socialist revolution in our country, a deeper and more extensive stage."This article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website.
