Abstract
Research into Global Englishes, comprising World Englishes (WE) and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF), has amply shown how complex the plurality of English has become today. The pedagogical implications of WE and ELF have been a widely investigated area, too, with a growing body of literature on teacher education, materials evaluation and classroom practices. Teacher education has been identified as a fundamental step to foster awareness of the current sociocultural diversity of use, users and contexts for World Englishes and ELF, essential to promote critical reflection upon current ENL-based pedagogical models and develop a WE/ELF-aware pedagogic orientation.
