Abstract

This paper is a synthesis of discussions and findings from an in-depth six-hour workshop. Household travel surveys are expensive and are seeing a drop in response rates all over the world. The situation has worsened with the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, mixed-mode surveys and new technologies are getting increased attention as ways to complement traditional household travel surveys designs. But many challenges remain. The objective of the workshop is to discuss the potential and known impacts of new technologies on large household travel surveys, to characterize bias generated by mixed modes frameworks, and to document different perspectives in an uncertain context.
