Abstract
Abstract The paper presents an empirical-statistical investigation of the dynamics of workplace accidents by structural changes and by different sectors percent of Romania's GDP (Gross Domestic Product). The research examines the main causes of dynamic evolution of the number of workplace accidents. Our theory argues that reducing the number of accidents is largely attributable to structural changes in the economy and to unemployment, and not because of effective and efficient measures of health and safety at workplace. Into research we benefited from the official statistical information freely available. We conclude that our statistical and empirical analysis is consistent with our theory: cyclical fluctuations in the number of workplace accidents have more to do with the recession or growth of a certain sector, rather than to changes in workplace safety.
