Abstract

This book gives in beautiful and concise form what a sensitive and highly trained care worker can do as a respected member of a pediatric team on a large pediatric service. The book is specific. It deals in a down-to-earth but never pedestrian or pretentious manner with the contributions of the author and her child care group in Cleveland. The book shows how this group makes both acute and chronic hospitalization less traumatic for children. The book elucidates how the group contributes significantly to the education of pediatricians, house officers, nurses, and social workers in the understanding and treatment of the hospitalized child. After reading this book, it is our feeling that now that the author has established her group at the Cleveland Metropolitan Hospital she should spend the next few years helping those of us who are less fortunate to establish similar groups in our institutions.
