Abstract

Per the National Academy of Medicine, paper-based systems posed a threat to American health care systems because of possible risks for redundant tests, increased costs, uncoordinated and fragmented care, or uninformed medical decision making because of incomplete data [1]. The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, passed in 2009, was an unprecedented $19 billion program set forth by Congress to promote the transition to electronic health records (EHRs) and health IT (HIT) [2].
