Abstract

Local monographic studies from a historical perspective are currently necessary for the correct understanding of the historical realities in the Romanian space. Starting from particular cases, monographs of villages, communes, cities, principalities/voivodeships, monographs of regions and the country can be made. As research involving transdisciplinarity and interdisciplinarity, local monographs have been approached over time by researchers from different fields: historians, geographers, philologists, folklorists, sociologists. Today there is a significant number of monographic studies of villages, communes or cities, but many of them suffer from a qualitative point of view. The case study of the settlements in Valcău de Jos commune, Sălaj county, aims to present specific working methods and techniques in the research of local history in the northwestern part of Romania, in order to contribute to the qualitative growth of these studies.
