Abstract

Electron emission spectra from alkalated tungsten surface under He + incidence show two peaks. These peaks blue-shift as the work function ( WF) decreases at a high WF surface and red-shift at a low WF surface. These peaks are simulated by numerical calculations assuming an autodetachment process through the high WF to the low WF. The strange shifts and the changes in shape of the peaks are explained by means of an image potential effect for emitted electrons and spatial distribution of launching point of electrons on He ∗− in the normal direction to the surface.
