Abstract

Workers' Dilemmas reexamines the relationships between social networks and labour markets. Drawing on the experience of hopping' in the first half of the century which drew thousands of families from the East End of London to the hop fields of Kent each year, Margaret Grieco argues provocatively about the ways in which work patterns, family structure and community networks interrelate, challenging accepted ideas in anthropology and the sociology of work.
