Abstract

The partial substitution of cement with nano-phase Al2O3 particles improves concrete's compressive strength and workability. A 15-nm-diameter Al2O3 nanoparticles in 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0% by weight of cement was employed in four distinct concentrations. Up to a maximum replacement level of 2.0%, the usage of nano-Al2O3 particles resulted in increased concrete strength. At 1.0% substitution of cement, concrete achieves its maximum compressive strength. In addition, adding Al2O3 nanoparticles to concrete mix was resulted in concrete with low workability. The results showed that the addition of Al2O3 nanoparticles in concrete impart higher compressive strength while decreasing its workability.
