Abstract
This paper examines the relation between labor, social struggle, and circulation (of capital and bodies) in the production of landscapes. Focusing on California's Imperial Valley and the stark relation there between living labor and dead laborers, and thus between the transformation of nature (the subject of labor) and systems of social reproduction, the paper examines the ways in which the real material conditions for justice—and injustice—are actively built into the ground.
