Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses work organization with multipurpose assembly robots. In its initial stage, it is expected that a major application of robots will be in the field of simple and repetitive assembling activities that are tedious and give little possibility of job enrichment to the worker performing them. Robots require an advanced programming work both in what concerns the operational cycle and the recovering procedures. Operations such as adjustments, diagnostic, and restart routine are activities that allow space for improving the professional level of the operator. The decision to use or not to use robots is based on both technical and economic considerations. The main advantages coming from the use of multiscope robots are the greater speed of the machine in comparison to the manual speed; the greater return because of higher productivity; the possibility of improving the work quality whenever professional enrichment for the workers, acting on technical aspect only, is impossible.
