Abstract

The WECAN program is designed to introduce high school female students to concepts in electrical and computer engineering (ECE). The program is focused on young women who have completed a pre-calculus class during their junior year of high school. A two week summer camp was held in the summer of 2006. During the camp, we cover approximately 60% of the course content contained in our freshman level ECE course. The camp is limited to female students only -those wishing to receive credit for EE 1304 may do so by completing a distance learning component of the course. Follow-up efforts continue during students' senior high school year (2006-07) to maintain contact and enhance recruiting efforts, as well as to determine for project evaluation purposes whether students who attended the camp enroll in engineering school
