Abstract
The systematic study of the meaning of work (MOW) is essential to increased understanding of work as a central life interest (England, 1984; MOW‐Inter‐national Research Team, 1981). Individuals' views of and commitment to work affect organisations and society in areas such as conflict, mobility, productivity, and structuring of organisations.
