Abstract

This document contains the proceedings of the 3rd Workshop of the Project on Poverty Health and the State in Southern Africa sponsored by the Committee on Health in Southern Africa sponsored by the Committee on Health in Southern Africa at Columbia University from May 13-15 1988. The theme of this conference was women and young children as a social focus since they have been most victimized by the destabilization of African society and apartheid. In addition to poverty malnutrition and inequitable health care they suffer from the effects of active conflict surveillance and intimidation. Since there is more general concern for the welfare of children a greater emphasis was placed on women in this conference. The 1st section "The Health of Women Mothers and Young Children" focuses on womens health particularly pregnant women. The 2nd section presents papers specifically on Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The 3rd section is on Progressive Primary Health Care and its in Southern Africa. The program of the workshop and a complete list of participants are included.
