Abstract

Women’s education as well as empowerment plays a very important role in the overall development of the country. Despite having women friendly images, higher education sector of India continues to be male dominated. The study aims to mitigate the secondary data-gap by creating an in-depth data-base of the women faculties of Kolkata metropolitan corporations, and to carry out qualitative phenomenological study capturing the essence of their lived experience unraveling the perception and expectations involving issues like career progress ,posting, job satisfaction, workload, challenges etc. The findings reflect that family support is very important to pursue career goals. Apart from that, initiative at personal level and organizational level is very essential to overcome the challenges faced by women faculties.
