Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a debilitating disease that leads to multiorgan damage. In the United States, the incidence of SLE is three to four times higher in African American females than White females. Morbidity and mortality rates remain high. The purpose of this study was to explore the meanings of the participants’ life experiences, challenges, and the influences on their health outcomes.
