Abstract

Placing women's action in Chile in the broader context of the worldwide women's movement, this paper explores how Chilean women are dealing with both the military dictatorship and patriarchy. It points out that under the brutal repression and disastrous economic policies of the Pinochet regime, the women's movement in Chile has taken a position of leadership. Drawing upon their past history and the contemporary worldwide women's movement, Chilean women are once again organizing for positive social change.
