Abstract

ABSTRACT Women occupy minute numbers of political offices throughout the world. In the developing world particularly, women face a variety of barriers that limit their involvement in government. This paper reviews the structure of local government administration in Thailand, documents the involvement of women, and presents the results of a study of women leaders in northern Thailand, which provides some insights into the conditions operating to constrain the participation of women in government.
