Abstract
Women represent half the world’s population. However, it is well confirmed that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) plays an important role in a country’s economy. Hence, women need to be recognized as economic and social powerhouse of any nation propelling with technology-driven agendas. Women in businesses and entrepreneurial ventures related to STEM fields can play an important role in not only boosting up their own career ambitions but also to support the upward trajectory of the country’s economic status and improvement of gross domestic product (GDP). This chapter highlights the role of women in business and entrepreneurship in STEM fields. The challenges faced by women in setting up businesses in STEM fields have been discussed and possible remedies are suggested. The exemplary cases of successful women in STEM business and entrepreneurship roles have been detailed, and the global initiatives by governments in the developing as well as developed nations have also been shared with examples.
