Abstract
The data on the participation of women in the armies of various countries are considered in the historical and modern aspect. The focus is made on the Russian army. The article highlights activities of women in command of military units, in combat and in military medicine; the list of the most common military specialties is presented. Peculiar features of female organism are discussed in relation to the conditions of army life. Special attention is given to historical data on women's participation in the delivery of health care in the Russian army, their participation in army institutions and rear hospitals.
