Abstract
Abstract This study focuses on women newspaper and periodical publishers in Illinois during the years of 1869–1900. The project poses three research questions: (1) What percentage of Illinois newspapers and periodicals published between 1869-1900 were published or edited by women? (2) Of the newspapers and periodicals published or edited by women during this period, in which areas of the state were they published-Chicago or down-state? (3) Of the publications identified as having been published or edited by women, what percentage were newspapers as opposed to periodicals?
