Abstract

A 51-year-old female dancer presented to the emergency department with the sound of a pop in the back of her left leg and severe pain when dancing. The episode occurred when she was changing rapidly from a plantarflexed to a dorsiflexed position. The weather on that day was cold, and she did not warm up adequately. On examination, it was painful to perform plantar flexion. There was tenderness on the medial side of the posterior compartment of the left leg without a palpable mass or skin lesion.
