Click to increase image sizeClick to decrease image size For the eastern part of Germany, the historical background and the planners' ideologies will be disclosed within the period between the End of the Second World War and the collapse of the former German Democratic Republic in 1989. The following phases will be mentioned: orientation by the ideas of the «Neues Bauen», the «Stalinization», change to typifying and industrialization in housing and—as a last phase—the reconstruction of historical buildings in the inner cities. This contribution aims to explain the structures in housing in the «Neuen Länder», which were caused during the existence of the German Democratic Republic.
