Abstract

An ad hoc meeting to consider data handling requirements for the two major ocean climate experiments planned over the next decade, the Interannual Variability of the Tropical Ocean and the Global Atmosphere (TOGA) and the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE), was held in August 1984 in Washington, D.C. The purpose was to begin to develop an effective data management system for the large‐scale ocean research programs of the World Climate Research Program. This report summarizes the presentations and gives the conclusions of the meeting. A more formal data management group is being set up, and reports on its work will appear in future editions of The Oceanography Report.
