Abstract

The WKB theory of multiphoton processes in atoms is formulated by using classical perturbation theory. We discuss the approximations used here and give a short review of the results of this theory in the case of a monochromatic field. The present WKB theory has a wider range of validity than the usual quantum perturbation one. The one-dimensional WKB wave function for an arbitrary time-dependent electromagnetic field is obtained.
