Abstract

Microwave hybrid-heating based joining of metals and alloys has received significant attention from researchers, due to its unique characteristics of rapid, uniform and selective heating. Filler powder is a critical input parameter of the microwaves based joining process. However, various researchers have been using different types of filler powders during this process. The most commonly used filler powders are nickel and copper. While other powders such as that of stainless steel 316, inconel, aluminum, braze alloy have also been used by a few researchers. This paper provides a detailed review of the different types of filler powders used during microwave hybrid heating-based joining of metals and alloys. This review work will be helpful during the selection of the most suitable filler powder for any future research work related to microwave hybrid heating.
