Abstract

Abstract Electric discharge machining (EDM) is utilized in developing high dimensional accuracy product of such materials that are hard and difficult to cut. EDM is widely established method for production of complex shapes and tiny apertures. Thus, it is an inevitable process now. Dielectric fluid executes important role in effecting the output parameters in EDM operation. Previously, hydrocarbons products (like kerosene) were commonly employed as dielectric fluid in this process. This paper presents option of adding powder in dielectric fluid of EDM. Powder mixed electrical discharge machining (PM-EDM) is a promising development for performance improvement of EDM. In this process, electrically conductive powder is added to dielectric fluid that influences the properties of the dielectric fluid and consequently, affects performance of EDM process. When PM-EDM is employed, material evacuation rate and surface quality improves. Scrutiny of important aspects of PM-EDM has been carried in this paper. The chronicled viewpoint of PM-EDM and its utility are also presented.
