Abstract

Statement of the Problem: Maxillofacial surgeons have used bone grafting for augmentation of deficient regions of the facial skeleton for many years. Donor site and techniques used vary depending on surgeon preference, patient characteristics, and indications for surgery. Tibial bone grafts are an alternative source of cancellous bone and have been used for alveolar cleft reconstruction. When compared to the anterior iliac crest graft, tibial grafts are attractive because of simplicity and less patient discomfort and post-operative morbidity.
