Abstract

This research focused on the preparation of a copper (Cu) doped aluminum oxide (alumina, (Al 2 O 3 ) using hydrothermal techniques. Different concentrations: 0%, 0.5%, 1%, and 2%, of the copper dopant, were incorporated into the alumina structure, and the Physio-chemical properties of the doped nanoparticles were investigated using spectroscopic techniques. Firstly, the doping was confirmed by ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) and Fourier transfer infrared (FT-IR), spectral analyses, respectively. The morphology and thermal properties of the doped products were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were applied to investigate the crystalline structure of the products. The elemental composition and distribution on the pure and doped Al 2 O 3 surface were measured by energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) techniques. The study revealed a successful modification of the lattice structure of the aluminum oxide, with the formation of less thermally stable copper doped aluminum oxide nanostructures.
