Abstract

A crippled person is a differently-abled person who unable to walk or move without any support like stick and walker. In that, many people are unable to handle these supports due to injury, illness and age factors. For this reason they are preferring wheel chair to move. Attenders are required for those people to move and lay them to bed. Due to the unavailability of the attenders and lack of skills of the attender, crippled people are unable to do any subsequent works. A system is required to shift the crippled people from bed to chair and vice versa. For that, a new product is developed for integrating bed and wheelchair. In the proposed work, a design and fabrication is carried out for bed cum wheelchair by adopting a pneumatic mechanism under seating area and backrest area. The backrest and footrest are connected by connecting rod that used for actuating the footrest. The design has been carried out by CATIA and the model is analyzed by ANSYS. The prototype of bed cum wheelchair is developed. Then the trial runs are conducted for identifying the mode of failures. The developed prototype eliminate the attenders need and also increasing the comfort of the crippled people.
