Abstract

Abstract This article was withdrawn on 4 September 2019 at the request of the authors. This paper is focused on the dynamic properties of concrete slab under blast. Firstly, a numerical model of reinforced concrete slab covered with aluminium foam is set up. The hydrocode, LS-DYNA, is employed in simulation. Secondly, numerical simulations are carried out to validate the numerical model. Thirdly, investigations are conducted to reveal the dynamic response of the protected concrete slab. The relationships between the configurations of the protecting foam layer and the dynamic response of the concrete slab are studied. The deformation mode of the protected slab is discussed. Results show that a perfect match between the protecting and the protected layers is critical for the improvement of the blast resistance. A mismatch can lead to unexpectedly serious damage.
