Abstract
Cassava has become an important food security crop in Ghana over the years and in most parts of sub-Saharan Africa; making it the single most important source of dietary energy. Harvesting, one of the serious bottlenecks in the cassava production value chain, has received little attention in terms of mechanization. Earlier attempts at mechanizing cassava harvesting have been challenged mainly by the inappropriate method of planting, field topography, and scale of cultivation. The objective of this study was to field evaluate the efficiency of an improved manual cassava collecting tool after plugging from the sand. In cassava harvesting, the main problem is some of the cassava beets have stayed in the sand. To recover that beet one or two-person has to work. From this project, we fabricate the machine to recover the cassava beet from sand after harvesting the plant. This machine can attach with tractor or drive-by separate motor. Initially 3d model of the machine developed by NX CAD software.
