Abstract
To date, the United States has not ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, known as the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. This sentiment is reflected in the historical treatment of youth generally from past to present and in particular for systems-involved youth. Despite the best intentions of the individual humans involved, the systems often fall far short of providing true treatment, education, or rehabilitation for youth, and at times fail even to provide a safe and stable environment or ensure that basic needs are met.
