Abstract

Shakespeare's Macbeth, a Jacobean play, was first performed in front of King James I, whose obsession regarding witchcraft was widely manifested in the early seventeenth century England. This essay is an attempt to explore the manifestation of the witches as projected in Macbeth with an emphasis on equivocation and their connections toMacbeth, the eponymous hero of the play.
