Abstract

The article compares the concepts of "wisdom" and “zdravyj smysl” / "common sense" in Russian and English dictionaries. It is shown that the concept "wisdom" in English is similar to the concept "common sense", while the concept "wisdom" and the concept "zdravyj smysl" according to dictionaries are clearly different. As a result, we can say that for the English-speaking community it is important to contrast reasonable and unreasonable behavior, practical and impractical, based on basic knowledge about life and on special knowledge, while in the Russian language consciousness only the first opposition is realized
