Abstract

This report summarizes information obtained on the composition of rodent populations in shocks of winter-standing corn; the distribution of certain species in the fields; winter sex and age ratios; and weights of the most abundant species. During the week of Jan. 17 to 23, 1941, all mice in 27 acres of shocked corn were collected for study. More than 500 were obtained, chiefly the prairie deermouse (Peromyscus maniculatus bairdii), and the meadow vole (Microtus p. pennsylvanicus). Pertinent observations over one year have also been included as they relate to these data. AREAS STUDIED
