Abstract

This essay examines the archetypal metaphors used by Winston Churchill prior to and during World War II. The author notes the consistent patterns of the metaphors and argues that they combined to reshape literal events into figurative conditions, challenges, and rewards. Together, Churchill's metaphors translated World War II into an ongoing tale of romantic adventure.
