Abstract

Is Bristol a ‘failed’ City Challenge authority? Certainly it lost (twice). But failure, it can be argued, implies a strong element of self‐chosen direction, something more than an externally conceived ‘opportunity’. In this light, Simon Horton, a local government officer with the Bristol authority, presents a personal perspective on urban regeneration in general and on Bristol's experience.
