Abstract

The angular distribution of the polarization of neutrons from the reaction 2H(d, n) 3He has been determined at five energies from 0.5 MeV to 2.0 MeV by left-right asymmetry induced by elastic scattering from 4He. A high-pressure helium-xenon gas scintillation counter served as scatterer. The scattered neutrons were detected by a time-of-flight method. The measured polarization shows a maximum value of about 25% at an angle of 50° and an energy of 0.5 MeV.
