Abstract

The only first hand account we have in English, concerning the Burmese cultivation of winged beanPsophocarpus tetragonolobus for its edible tubers, was written over ninety years ago. A survey carried out in the markets and growing areas of Myanmar in January 1998 confirmed much of the detail of this earlier report and demonstrated that the winged bean is an entrenched though minor component of commercial agriculture in Upper Burma. It could be more than this.
