Abstract

Lundy Island, in the approaches to the Bristol Channel, provides a good example of electricity supply to an isolated community. In November 1982 a 55 kW Windmatic wind turbine was installed on the island with the purpose of reducing dependence on expensive diesel generation. The wind system has been operating more or less continuously since then, providing most of the island's energy requirement.
