Abstract

This paper discusses use of bond graphs as a graphical method to model a wind turbine system. The purpose of the study reported in the article is to show some of the advantages gained by using the bond graph method in analysis and modeling of wind turbines. A nonlinear model of a wind turbine generating system, containing blade pitch, drive train, tower motion and generator are modeled and presented. Using bond graph method, particular focus is given on the blade, the drive train, and show the difference with modeling using a classical mechanical method. The model consists of realistic parameters, however no attempt is done to validate a specific wind turbine system. Simulations are also carried out in the bond graph simulation software 20-sim. The model is validated using blade profile data of NACA 4415.
