Abstract

Both stochastic and deterministic trends should be considered in wind speed prediction, thus its variation can be better expressed with the combination model. In this paper, a combination model for wind speed prediction is built and then wind power is predicted on the basis of it. The deterministic trend is predicted with Grey Model (GM), which is improved with the characteristics of wind speed; at the same time, the stochastic trend is predicted by Support Vector Machines (SVM). The output of the combination wind speed prediction model is an input of wind power prediction, which is established by support vector machine models. Examples show the wind speed prediction accuracy can be effectively improved by this method, thus the prediction accuracy of wind power is increased.
