Abstract

The properties of the surface boundary layer play a key role as an input condition in wind tunnel tests, numerical simulation etc., used in the prediction of the strong winds generated around high rise buildings, wind load design of super-high-rise buildings and the prediction of the diffusion conditions of pollutants in urban areas. With the aims of accumulating the basic data for use in such wind tunnel tests/numerical simulations, field observations were made on the vertical profile of the mean wind speed and turbulence intensity in inshore (Niigata city) and inland (Niitsu city) urban areas usign doppler sodar type anemometers. Investigations were also conducted on frequency distribution of the power index in the vertical profile of mean wind speed and power index relationship, as well as the relationship of the power indexes to outside temperature and solar radiations.
